Super City greenlit for ABC in US

ABC has picked up Super City, a comedy presentation, which will be produced by ABC Studios. The ABC adaptation also will be created by Sami, who will write the presentation and will star in it. Waititi will direct. Carthew Neal, producer of the original series, is executive producing through his Super Fumes banner, along with Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment. See trailer below.

Super City has been renewed for a second season and will begin production in 2012.

The first season DVD is now available here. It is packed with deleted scenes, bloopers, commentaries and play by character bonus disk.

Super City is a six-part comedy series starring Madeleine Sami (Jaquie Brown Diaries & Sione’s Wedding) and directed by Taika Waititi (Boy & Eagle vs. Shark).

Sami hilariously transforms into five acutely observed and very different characters all living in our country’s super city. There’s Pasha, an aging cheerleader clinging to her partying lifestyle; Azeem, an immigrant taxi driver embracing Maori culture; Jo, a closeted gym instructor in love with her best friend; Linda, the runt of her “old girls” clique fostering impoverished artists and Georgie, a homeless girl whose freedom is unexpectedly interrupted.

Madeleine Sami was awarded Best Actress at 2011 AFTA awards. Madeleine Sami & Thomas Sainsbury were awarded Best Comedy Script at 2011 SWANZ awards. The series was finalist for Best Comedy, Best Drama/Comedy Script at 2011 AFTAs.
